Bike Racks for the Garage

There are several different types of racks that would work wonderfully in a garage or any indoor space. Some rest on the floor, others on the wall, and yet others hang from the ceiling. Choosing the bike rack that is best for you and your space is an important decision. Here are just a few of the great options when it comes to choosing an indoor bike rack.

Wall Rack
Wall racks come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The racks can attach to nearly any type of wall and are ideal if you are trying to save floor space. Most wall racks consist of two hook like objects that are secured to a wall. You hang the bike on the racks by its frame where it will sit horizontally. Most wall racks can accommodate either one or two bicycle. There are several benefits to using a wall bike rack. For one, most are rubber coated, which means that the racks won't scratch your bike. Also, if you have a differnt, or even a Y-shaped bike, it will still fit on the rack.

Ceiling Rack
If you are looking to save a lot of space, then a ceiling rack may be the best choice for you. Keeping your bike off of the ground also ensures that there will be fewer maintenance problems like rust or rodent problems. Keep in mind however, that you will need to have a relatively small vehicle if you are hanging your bicycle in the same area where you park. Most of the ceiling racks attach to the ceiling, of course, then have two hooks attached to cables which hang down. These cables incorporate a pulley system, making moving the bike up and down simple. Most ceiling racks hold only one bike, but they can handle up to 50 pounds.

Floor Racks
Floor racks are ideal for garage storage. If space isn't really an issue with your garage, but you want things to stay organized, then a floor rack is probably your best option. With a floor rack you can usually park two or three bikes with one. These floor racks are especially nice for children's bikes which don't usually come equipped with kickstands. Also, when you have a bike stand you can be assured that your bike isn't going to fall over and potentially be damaged if you are only leaning the bike against the wall.
